The Interview

I was recently at a job interview and, while I waited in reception before the meeting, this little story popped into my head. I didn’t get the job, but hey, you can’t win them all. Anyway, hope you enjoy it and, remember, this story is licensed under Creative Commons, so feel free to copy, reprint, mashup or whatever.

Election Night

Vote!

Well, tonight is election night here in the UK and the exit polls are already predicting that the Tories will finish just short of an overall majority. All this follows a month long bombardment using almost every form of media from the main parties involved, undoubtedly similar to a general election in any country. Read more…

A lack of writing

Unfortunately, there has been a lack of writing and I am getting bogged down in what one might call blog maintenance. Read more…

The Idiocy of Men

Over recent weeks, I have become an avid watcher of the US TV show Curb Your Enthusiasm, written by and starring Larry David who was also heavily involved with the making of Seinfeld. This show is the funniest thing I have seen on the TV for a while and, every week, I sit down to watch and find myself keeling over with laughter at the ridiculous situations in which the main character finds himself. Stuntman

Well, Stuntman was finally finished and, today, appeared on the Shortbread Stories website. You can read it at:

http://www.shortbreadstories.com/story-stuntman.htm

although you need to register with the site (which is free – and you get access to the 350+ other stories on there, too).

This is very exciting for me – my first publicly available story. What was even more exciting – for a short time it was the highest rated story on the Shortbread site!!!! Members can rate stories from 1 to 5 stars, the overall rating for any story being the average. Stuntman had been rated 5 stars by 1 reader, giving it an average of 5 stars and thrusting it to the top of the table!!! Sadly, though, some swine seems to have rated it with 0! Meaning my average is now 2.5, which I’m guessing gets rounded down to 2! Not entirely sure how they managed to rate it 0, though.

Just goes to show that you can’t please everyone – and anyone who expects anything different is clearly insane

Stuntman in the making

OK, I started writing my next story tonight called “Stuntman”. It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything here, so I’ve had a lot of time to mull it over and I’m hoping that it’s going to be a simple case of execution – see if I can’t get it done in a couple of days. Although, things do have a habit of getting in the way. Going to work, for example.
Anyway, I’m going to post it on www.shortbreadstories.com when I’m done. I’ve read a few stories on there – some are a bit dull – some are bloody fantastic! One to note, in particular, is “The Pianist”. This is an incredible piece of work. Time to dig deep and try and up my game!

a new short story

I’m just about to finish my first short story, so now it’s time to start thinking about a new one. I found this site http://www.shortbreadstories.com that is dedicated to short stories. It’s a community thing where anyone can post any old shite and the community will cast judgement. Sounds interesting. I’ve not read anything on there just yet, but will have a scout around and see if I can’t put up something half decent.

awesome

The power of the mind – it is truly an awesome sight to behold. Not only does it represent a highly evolved organism that is capable of understanding some of the deepest mysteries of the universe, but it can also fix broken twitter feeds while it sleeps.

Twitter woes

I seem to be having some trouble getting my twitter feed to appear in the sidebar. Time to sleep on it and see if it fixes itself, like these things so often do.
